ब्रिटिश राज के दौरान 25 मई 1933 को एक बेहद कड़ा और दमनकारी कानून लागू किया गया। बंगाल में क्रांतिकारियों की बढ़ती गतिविधियों और राष्ट्रवाद की लहर को कुचलने के लिए अंग्रेजों ने 12 से 25 वर्ष की आयु के सभी हिंदू युवाओं के लिए हर समय पहचान पत्र (ID Card) साथ रखना अनिवार्य कर दिया। (During the British rule, a highly strict and oppressive law was implemented on 25 May 1933. To crush the rising activities of revolutionaries and the wave of nationalism in Bengal, the British made it mandatory for all Hindu youths aged between 12 to 25 years to carry an Identity Card at all times.)
